Tolls in Poland: Everything You Need to Know About Costs & Payment Methods

There is no sticker vignette in Poland. For cars and other light vehicles up to 3.5 t, distance-based tolls apply on some privately operated motorway sections and, depending on the operator, can be paid at toll booths or electronically. The state-managed sections A2 Konin–Stryków and A4 Wrocław–Sośnica have been toll-free for light vehicles up to 3.5 t since 1 July 2023. Vehicles and vehicle combinations over 3.5 t, as well as buses, are subject to the electronic e-TOLL system on the toll road network.

Rules for cars, motorcycles, vehicle combinations and motorhomes

The toll rules that apply to your vehicle in Poland depend on its maximum authorised mass, the type of vehicle and the road section being used. A distinction must be made between the state e-TOLL system and privately operated concession motorways.

e-TOLL system

On state-managed roads, a distinction is made between light and heavy vehicles.

Light vehicles up to 3.5 t

Vehicles with a maximum authorised mass of no more than 3.5 t are not subject to tolls under the state e-TOLL system.

Change from 21 September 2026: In future, this will also apply when towing a trailer, even if the maximum authorised mass of the vehicle combination exceeds 3.5 t.

Heavy vehicles and vehicle combinations over 3.5 t

Motor vehicles and vehicle combinations with a maximum authorised mass of more than 3.5 t are subject to the electronic e-TOLL system on the toll sections of the state road network. Buses are subject to e-TOLL regardless of their maximum authorised mass.

Concession motorways

There are two tolling systems on Poland’s concession motorways: a closed system and an open system. Under the closed system, the toll depends on the distance travelled and the vehicle category. Under the open system, a fixed fee is charged. The tolled concession sections are the A1 Gdańsk–Toruń, A2 Świecko–Konin and A4 Katowice–Kraków. On the A2, the Poznań Zachód–Poznań Wschód section is toll-free.

On tolled concession motorways, tolls can be paid at toll booths. Depending on the operator, different payment methods are available, such as cash and credit or debit cards. Before travelling, check which payment methods are accepted by the relevant motorway operator.

Electronic payment

e-TOLL

On the relevant state-managed roads, electronic tolls are collected via the e-TOLL system. The system is based on satellite positioning (GNSS) and the transmission of the vehicle's geolocation data. Several options are available:

The app or device used must be assigned to the relevant vehicle in the e-TOLL account and activated. Payment can be made using either a prepaid account or a postpaid account with deferred payment.

Prices

Light vehicles

There is no standard toll rate for light vehicles on Polish concession motorways. The amount charged depends on the relevant motorway operator, the vehicle category and the road section travelled. The operators of the A1, A2 and A4 each set their own toll rates.

Heavy vehicles

For vehicles subject to e-TOLL, the toll rate depends on the road class, the vehicle's or vehicle combination's maximum permissible weight and the EURO emissions class. Since 1 February 2026, electronic toll rates have ranged from PLN 0.34 to PLN 1.07 per kilometre, depending on the vehicle and road. On motorways and expressways (A and S), rates range from PLN 0.41 to PLN 1.07/km, while on national roads in the GP and G classes, rates range from PLN 0.34 to PLN 0.83/km. Fines

Breaches of e-TOLL requirements may result in fines. These include, among other things, failure to pay the electronic toll and failure to register, or incorrect registration of, a toll-liable vehicle in the e-TOLL system. Depending on the type of offence, administrative penalties ranging from 250 to 1,500 PLN may be imposed.
