Toll in Montenegro

In Montenegro, a toll is only charged for a section of the motorway. The toll can be paid at the toll booths by credit card or cash. Unlike in other European countries such as Austria or Slovenia, no adhesive vignette or digital vignette is required.

In Montenegro, a toll is charged only on the 42-kilometer section of the A1 motorway between Smokovaca and Mateševa.

Special toll

In Montenegro, a special toll for all vehicles is charged only for one route: the approximately 4.1-kilometer-long Sozina Tunnel on the E 80 between Podgorica and Bar. Additionally, there is a ferry from Kamenari to Lepetane. The country does not have a city toll for major cities.

Exceptions

Tolls are only charged on the above-mentioned routes, all other motorways, expressways, tunnels and bridges are toll-free.

Regulations for different categories of vehicles

The toll charges in Montenegro are determined by the total height of your vehicle, the number of axles, and the weight. Depending on the vehicle category, different fees apply. The toll system differentiates the following five vehicle classes:

Category 4 Motor vehicles up to 3 axles; over 1.3 m front axle height; over 3.5 tonnes and over 1.9 m total height with trailer
Category 5 Motor vehicles with 4 or more axles; over 1.3 m on the front axle and over 3.5 tonnes

At 4,189 metres, the tunnel from Podgorica to Bar is the longest and most modern tunnel in Montenegro.

The ferry ride takes about ten minutes. It is the only inland ferry in Montenegro and saves you a detour of about 40 driving minutes to Herceg Novi, Tivat, and other popular cities on the Adriatic coast.

The toll fees for the motorway and the tunnel must be paid in advance at a toll station. The toll can be paid in cash or with a credit card.

Does Montenegro have a vignette?

Unlike Austria and Slovenia, Montenegro does not have a vignette requirement but has fixed toll prices that depend on the vehicle class. The motorway fee must be paid to use toll roads.

Fines

Anyone who fails to pay the respective fees for the motorway and the tunnel may be fined. The exact amount of the fine can vary depending on the type of offence and is determined in accordance with local regulations and laws.

How are tolls controlled in Montenegro?

The toll in Montenegro is controlled directly at the toll stations. You must take a ticket when entering the motorway and pay it when exiting the motorway.
