Rules for camping in Switzerland:

  • In some cantons and above the tree line, wild camping for one night is allowed as long as it takes place outside of nature reserves and no campfire is made.
  • When wild camping, always be considerate of the environment and other people. Permission from the owner must always be obtained on private land.
  • In the mountains, wild camping is less strictly regulated; however, caution and consideration are still required, especially regarding nature and other hikers.
  • Make sure to familiarize yourself with the traffic regulations of Switzerland in advance.

Bernese Oberland

The Bernese Oberland is known for its impressive Alpine landscapes, including the famous peaks of Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau, as well as picturesque lakes such as Lake Thun and Lake Brienz.

Camping Jungfrau, Lauterbrunnen: This campsite is located in one of the most beautiful valleys of the Alps, surrounded by 72 waterfalls. Ticino

  • The best time to go camping in Switzerland is between May and September. However, it can be cool even in summer in Switzerland.
  • Switzerland has very changeable weather, especially in the mountains. Therefore, be prepared for a quick weather change.
  • Make sure you have good weatherproof equipment.
  • It is advisable to carry a physical map of the region, as you cannot always rely on your phone in the mountains.
